Big Sandy Lake is located in Aitkin County just north of McGregor Minnesota. Big Sandy is 6526 acres, 25 islands and is managed for walleye. Aitkin Lake can be accessed from Big Sandy. Also, you can access smaller lakes slightly southwest of Big Sandy, such as Rat Lake and Flowage Lake. Slightly southeast, but not accessible for Big Sandy, is Lake Minnewawa, which also is smaller than Big Sandy but larger than Aitkin Lake. The Mississippi River and Tamarack River flow into Big Sandy Lake as well. The Mississippi River is connected to Willow River about 15 miles south of it's entrance into Big Sandy Lake. |
